A Budding Artist
Welcome to our bottle cap mosaic mural page!!
This amazing project was completed using collected plastic bottle caps, metal beer caps and
re-used jar lids from our local recycling center.  The purpose of the project was to learn that
art can be a fun way to reuse things we find around the house.  We also learned alot about
how generous our community is.... THANK YOU to all of the wonderful, generous people who
took the time to get these to us!!   and STAY TUNED for our 2nd mural to be posted online..
created by Makenzie Gomes & Meredith McCartin - great job girls!
The murals by the Tuesday class took 8 children 1.5 months to complete.   That's longer
than most adults can stand to work together!

Here are some fast facts:

* The concept was originated from our student teacher - Andrea Omar who consistently
brings fresh and exciting ideas and inspirations to our classroom.  Thanks Andrea!
* We collected over 6000 bottle caps and used over 3200 of them!
* We collected over 500 jar lids (Thank you Raynham Recycling Center!!)
* We used over 40 pounds of grout
*  We used more than 10 ounces of paint to paint the color on the grout.
*  We used 42 CD's broken into little pieces
*  We used well over 150 keys, which were generously donated by Lowes!
*  We worked together to come up with the concept, carry out the design and decide who
does what.  Delegation & teamwork were valuable concepts we learned!
*  One mural reused plywood that was going to be thrown out (thank you Mason family!).
* One very generous boy donated his entire beer cap collection - THANK YOU THURBER
FAMILY!
^  We learned that plastic bottle caps (like the ones on the water bottles) are NOT
recyclable.  So...what better way to reuse them than to put them in art!
* We also learned how fun  making a mosaic mural with friends can be!

We will be displaying these two murals at the Raynham Middle School and Laliberte
Elementary School in the month of May.  A big thank you to the principals and art teachers
there for letting us show our work!
These are the finished pieces of the Tuesday class mural.  Each measures
approximately 4ft x 4ft and weighs about 30 pounds each!  They will hinge
together for display at the school.  The themes the children chose were recycling
awareness & community support.  They were overwhelmed by the amount of
people that responded to our need for bottle caps!!

Below you can see us all hard at work....
Well, we have to have some fun too!
